The QubiTO Hackathon is a place to learn, build and meet people. We want everyone to feel welcome and safe, whatever their background, field of study or experience with quantum computing. This code applies to everyone at the event: participants, mentors, speakers, partners, volunteers and organisers. It covers the venue, the dinner on 11 December, online channels used for the event, and social media related to it.
Expected behaviour
- Be respectful and kind. Disagree with ideas, not with people.
- Help each other. Many participants are new to quantum computing, and teams are formed on site: include everyone in your team.
- Respect people’s time, space and privacy, including their choice not to be photographed.
- Take care of the venue and the equipment, and follow the instructions of the organisers and of the building staff.
- Look after yourself and others during the night: take breaks, eat, drink water, and tell an organiser if someone is not well.
Unacceptable behaviour
- Harassment, intimidation or discrimination of any kind, including related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, ethnicity, nationality, religion, age or level of experience.
- Offensive comments, slurs, or sexual images and language in talks, projects, chats or presentations.
- Unwanted physical contact or sexual attention, stalking, or following someone.
- Photographing or recording people who asked not to be.
- Disrupting talks, presentations or other teams’ work.
- Cheating: submitting work that was prepared before the start of coding or that is not your team’s own, beyond libraries and public resources that you clearly credit.
- Damaging or stealing equipment, or entering areas of the building that are closed to the event.
Venue and safety
- Smoking and alcohol are not allowed.
- We’ll explain on site where you can rest during the night and the rules for leaving and re-entering the building.
- Keep emergency exits and corridors free. In an emergency, follow the building staff and the organisers.
If something happens
If you experience or see behaviour that breaks this code, or you feel unsafe, please tell us as soon as possible:
- talk to any organiser: we’ll tell you on site how to recognise us and who to contact, also during the night;
- write to teamqubito@gmail.com, also after the event.
Reports are handled confidentially. You don’t need proof and you won’t get in trouble for reporting in good faith.
What we will do
The organisers will listen, help you feel safe and decide what to do. Depending on the case, this can go from a warning to removing someone from the event and excluding them from future QubiTO events. In serious cases we will involve Politecnico di Torino and, where needed, the authorities.
